Biocaps meets its goal of converting the IBI into an international centre of excellence in biomedical research

The Biomedical Capacities Support Program (Biocaps) has come to an end having achieved its primary objective, namely to ensure that the Biomedical Research Institute (IBI) achieves a level of scientific excellence that has already been acknowledged by the European Commission. During the final conference for this project, which has been funded by the EU to the tune of 4.6 million euros over the past three years, the next goal for the institute was established as receiving accreditation from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.

The IBI is awarded seven patents and signs new company agreements thanks to BIOCAPS

The European BIOCAPS project, which is drawing to a close after three years, has managed to achieve one of the key objectives in the framework of its mission to optimise the capabilities of the Biomedical Research Institute (IBI), namely to design and implement an effective innovation and knowledge-transfer model. The first results of this strategy, which will continue to go from strength to strength after termination of the project, can be seen from seven patents and new collaboration agreements with companies.

An IBI researcher is awarded the first Ramón y Cajal contract for the Galician Health Service in biomedicine in 10 years

The epigenetics expert Roberto Agis-Balboa, who joined the Biomedical Research Institute (IBI) in 2013 as part of the BIOCAPS project, has been awarded the first Ramón y Cajal contract for the Galician biomedical community in more than 10 years. This will ensure his continuity at the institute, where he will continue his studies into Alzheimer's disease and depression, for at least five more years.
